The production and use of medical cannabis will soon be legalized in Morocco.
According to a report by Reuters, the decisive factor for discussing a change in the law is the UN decisionto remove cannabis from the list of the most strictly controlled narcotics.
The medicinal plants are said to be grown in the Rif Mountains, where protests have been taking place in recent years over economic discrimination against hemp farmers. The mountain range that is part of the Atlas Mountains is known for cannabis cultivation and traditional hashish production.
According to the draft law, production, transport and sales are to be coordinated by a national agency. Recreational use of cannabis remains prohibited in Morocco. Parliament still has to approve the amendment.
